Former Jamaican Television Personality, Naomi Cowan Excels In Canada

Kingston, Jamaica: June 28, 2010 :: Former television personality and Miss Teen Jamaica 2004, Naomi Cowan after departing Jamaica a few years ago to pursue tertiary studies overseas, continues to excel in the field of Television and Radio in Canada. Naomi, the daughter of gospel stars Dr. Minister Carlene Davis and Tommy Cowan and a past student of Campion College moved to Toronto in 2006 and enrolled at the Ryerson University.

In June 2010 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio and Television broadcasting with a minor in law. During her tenure at Ryerson Naomi was determined at proving she was serious about her career, her place at Ryerson and had a clear vision of where she wanted to go in life.

Actor Boy Awards Announces NominationsMonday March 9; Kingston, Jamaica: The International Theatre Institute Jamaica Centre hosted is annual Actor Boy Awards Press Launch and Nomination Announcements on Monday, March 9th at the Jamaica Trade and Invest (JTI) meeting room.

In attendance were theatre industry members inclusive of producers, writers, actors and designers as well as sponsors representatives, the press and friends of the community. Actress and President of Jamaica Association of Dramatic Actors (JADA) Dorothy Cunningham, brought greetings; she was later nominated in the category actress in a lead role for her performance in Adrian Nelson’s Moon River.

COMMUNITY AGREES DANCEHALL IS A TROUBLED GENRE BUT SPLITS ON MUSIC BAN

Dancehall MusicOn Wednesday, March 4th the Coalition to Preserve Reggae music (CPR) in association with ZYNC TV NEW YORK LINKS hosted the highly anticipated community forum and panel discussion titled, “Could Dancehall be the ruination of Reggae and by extension the Jamaica brand?” The hot button debate was witnessed by about 200 persons who turned out to the historic Billie Holiday Theatre at Restoration Plaza in Brooklyn.

Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, Mrs. Genevieve Brown-Metzger brought greetings to the community stating that she personally welcomed the recent initiatives by the Government through its regulatory agency, the Broadcasting Commission; in saying enough is enough to those artistes, producers and mass media houses that have collaborated to bring the music and our popular culture into disrepute.
