JAMAICAN SCHOOLBOYS OF YESTERYEAR TO REUNITE AT SPRINGFIELD GARDENS SOCCER FESTIVAL

Monday, July 07, 2009–New York City residents will get another opportunity this Summer to reminisce about the glory days of the recent past when sports and academics fuelled enough pride and prejudice to last a lifetime beyond the high school classrooms and soccer fields in Jamaica, West Indies.

The Springfield Gardens High School field at the Springfield Gardens Education Complex at 143 Avenue & Springfield Blvd., (near the North Conduit Avenue), in Springfield Gardens, Queens, NY, will be the venue for what organizers hope will be the first annual showcase of those players of the past whose pride and passion made the schoolboy soccer competition one to die for. Jamaica, NY – April 20, 2009 – Center For Caribbean Progress (CCP), a public policy research organization, held a Free Immigration Seminar in celebration of the 6th Annual NYC Immigrant Heritage Week, to provide assistance to community members with immigration and naturalization challenges. The attentive audience, gathered at Community Church of the Nazarene, Far Rockaway, NY, posed pertinent questions and concerns to the three-person panel of immigration experts.

“As President Barack Obama visits Trinidad and Tobago to attend the Fifth Summit of the Americas, and proposes sweeping reform of immigration laws, the Caribbean community, as well as other immigrant groups, have many unanswered questions about the effects on their immigration filing, status, and process,” CCP founder Donald Vernon stated. JAMAICAN INMATES DONATE CASH TO HURRICANE RELIEF

New YOrk JISConsul General of Jamaica in New York, Mrs. Geneive Brown Metzger has called on the Jamaican community in the USA to remember those nationals who are incarcerated at this time.

In an emotional address to inmates at the Woodbourne Correctional Facility in UpState New York, on Friday, January 30, 2009, Mrs. Brown Metzger said that the Consulate will continue to reach out where necessary and possible.

She described as “an incredible generous gesture,” the presentation of a check for just over $1,100.00 from the inmates at the medium security facility who are members of the Caribbean African Unity (CAU) organization to be used for hurricane relief and rehabilitation in Jamaica.
