Kingston: India Arie was named this year’s International Friend of Reggae at the recently held 6th Annual Excellence in Music & Entertainment (EME) Awards 2010 staged at the Gardens at Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston. The EME Organizers were honoured to have her present at the event, as this was her first appearance since winning her third Grammy the Sunday before.
Arie received her award after gracing the stage with Gramps Morgan. The two performed their duet, “Therapy”, which is featured on Morgan’s album, “2 Sides of My Heart”, which was named the 2010 EME Album of the Year. Kingston Jamaica: February 02, 2010: Cassia Park deejay Wasp continues to show upward mobility in 2010 and was last weekend rewarded for his efforts by taking home the awards for ‘Most Requested Song’ and the coveted ‘Song of the Year’ for ‘Unfair Officer’ at the ROOTS FM awards show and concert held on Friday, January 29th at the station’s premises in Cockburn Gardens.
The award show unlike many others aims to bestow accolades on our local talent who continually churn out spiritually uplifting music throughout the year, the kind that aids in the rebuilding process of an emotional and economically battered nation such as Jamaica.

Dominican born, Bronx bred marie-claire; as well as Nelly Stharre, a Dominican who has called Kingston home for the last 15 years, will both be performing on the final night of the annual Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival in Trewlany this Saturday January 30th.
marie-claire is an Italian-trained opera singer who has performed at Carnegie Hall and who’s songs have been featured in feature films such as Lovin Jezebel and The Roommate. She spent time in front of the camera as a cast member on the second season of Chapelle’s Show on Comedy Central. Since marie-claire’s return to Dominica, she has through her girlfullofgold productions ltd, produced and hosted local music programmes, while still making time to perform at events such as LIME Creole in the Park and various private functions. Reggae singer and songwriter Hugh Simpson has been working together with Bassa and the independent music label Basmuzik to create some outstanding reggae music for this year.
Already Hugh and Bassa have released the classic collaboration ‘Wanna Be Loved’ on the label, which is set to explode on the airwaves in the coming weeks.
Together, Hugh and Bassa intend to take Basmuzik to the top of the entertainment game.
Born Basil Hugh Simpson on May 6, 1975 in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, Hugh grew up in the district of Slipe in the parish. Slipe is one of those quaint communities that you would have a hard time finding on any map, and where everyone knows everyone else.
