Earth Day competition 2010 explores Biodiversity at Risk

On Thursday April 22, 2010, The Natural History Museum of Jamaica (NHMJ) of The Institute of Jamaica will celebrate the 11th staging of its Earth Day, Essay, Poster & Photography competition at its Awards ceremony at the Institute of Jamaica Lecture Hall, starting at 10:00 am.

The theme for this year’s competition is Biodiversity at Risk to coincide with the designation of 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity (IYOB) by the United Nations.

The IYOB is themed “Biodiversity is Life: Biodiversity is our Life” and is a celebration of life on earth and of the value of biodiversity to our lives.

SCHOOL DROP OUTS, FIND ‘SANCTUARY’ WITH CSJP-FUNDED PROGRAMME

[CSJP, Friday, February 19, 2010]: The two year old ‘Flanker Youth Sanctuary’ is being hailed for changing the lives of scores of school dropouts as well as expelled and suspended students from St. James, and may be preventing many from turning to crime and violence.

Through the Flanker Community Development Committee and with the support of the Citizen Security and Justice Programme (CSJP) of the Ministry of National Security, the Sanctuary has been rehabilitating students who have found themselves on the wrong side of school rules, at the Flanker Peace and Justice Centre.

M & M Jamaica Limited Announces Education Scholarships for over Ninety (90) Students

Mr. Don. Mullings Managing Director of M & M Jamaica Limited on Monday, December 14th, 2009 announced details of his company’s scholarship programme for promising and deserving students.

The scholarships which will benefit over ninety (90) students are funded by M & M Jamaica through its CHANCE FUND, the “ENGINE” established to drive the company’s outreach programme. The programme includes the company’s flagship and very successful Mathematics Competition held in High Schools in the parish of St. Elizabeth and the M & M Entrepreneurs Fund, whereby collateral free financial assistance is given to young persons under the age of thirty (30) to start their own business.
