JIIC has once again underlined its commitment to preserving the social fabric of Jamaica, by assuming the enviable position of being the title sponsor of the 2010 Poetry in Motion GOLDEN TONGUE AWARDS.

JIIC has been a leading sponsor of Poetry in Motion, a seven (7) year-old event that has showcased some of the best talent in Creative Art locally.

Now, the Golden Tongue Awards (GTA), a prelude to Poetry in Motion (PIM), appeals to younger and new poets.

Bottom Pen mulls name change to GUANGO MEADOWS

CSJP, January 29, 2010: Transformation is the new buzzword in Bottom Pen in Montego Bay, St. James, where several hundred metres of old zinc fences are being torn down and replaced with concrete walls, courtesy of the Citizen Security and Justice Programme (CSJP). Now, citizens are talking about transforming the name of the community as well.

The residents have pledged to change the name of the community from Bottom Pen to the more upscale Guango Meadows, as the zinc fence transformation project is triggering a different view, hope and vision for the community. Continue reading Bottom Pen mulls name change to GUANGO MEADOWS

PATRICE MCHUGH SELECTED FOR INTERNATIONAL COCKTAIL BOOK

(Kingston, Jamaica) — Patrice McHugh, Managing Director of the Bars To Go Group of Companies was recently selected to appear in a cocktail booklet alongside the world’s leading mixologists.

The book, which is called the ‘Don Julio Luxury Booklet’, will be released in February 2010 and the world’s top mixologists were asked to submit a recipe using Don Julio as the base spirit in addition to fresh ingredients. In addition, the drink is to be accompanied by a ritual. Case in point, the known way to drink tequila is with salt, then sucking on lime.

Wanting to step away from the usual way of drinking tequila, each mixologist’s recipe and ritual is sure to be a hit with tequila fans. Patrice’s Don Julio recipe incorporated the use of fresh tangerine juice, ginger juice, Agave syrup and Don Julio Reposado tequila. University Players’ Tribute to Trevor Rhone

a_004The University Players’ will pay tribute to the late Trevor Rhone with a staging of his award-winning comedy “Two Can Play” which will be presented for just six performances beginning Saturday October 17th and continuing through to Monday October 26 at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI, Mona.

Two Can Play, a work which won the award for Best Jamaican Play in 1982, features performances by 2008 Actor Boy Award nominees Nadean Rawlins and Alwyn Scott, and is directed by Brian Heap, who also won this year’s award for Best Director. The most recent University Players’ appearance by Nadean Rawlins and Alwyn Scott was in the Players’ memorable production of A. R. Gurney’s Love Letters which was presented earlier this year. CHURCHES CO-OPERATIVE CREDIT UNION SPONSORS PARENTING SEMINARS

dsc_0007Kingston, Jamaica: May 28, 2009 – As the nation tries to grapple with the increasing number of children who have been the victims or perpetrators of violent crimes, Churches Cooperative Credit Union (CCCU) has joined forces with Youth Opportunities Unlimited to host a series of seminars for parents.

The seminars, which are being held under the theme, “Parenting in a Volatile Society: How to Be Your Child’s Friend While Still Being a Parent”, will provide a forum where parents can get sound advice and coaching on proactively handling many of the serious issues that are currently affecting the country’s youth.
