Washington, DC – The National Alliance Foundation, a non-profit network committed to promoting peace and harmony while raising funds and awareness for cancer, announced today plans for the First Annual Reggae Summer Fest For Cancer Research reggae show. The inaugural concert will bring top-flight reggae and entertainment to RFK Stadium, home of Major League Soccer’s D.C. United team. When asked at last week’s Carifest CARES (Compassionate Artists Recognizing Entertainment Solutions) press conference what Carifest meant to him, Eek-A-Mouse replied. “It doesn’t mean (expletive) to me” He then changed the subject entirely and went off on a tirade, dissing all the “white people who control reggae, like Ace Of Base, Matisyahu, (whose name he repeatedly mispronounced and called Matissaweh), Sean Paul and Shaggy; bitterly blaming them for his inability to get signed by a major label. But Eek-A-Mouse Doesn’t Agriculture Minister Dr Christopher Tufton, has received the backing of the Trafalgar Council for his initiatives to establish a residential fruit tree and an urban agriculture programme. In making his contribution to the 2008/9 Budget Debate, Dr Tufton also gave a commitment that “we will make Jamaica green again, and we are ready to partner with every Jamaican householder, in every community, and every district to achieve these objectives”. South African police say the renowned Reggae musician was shot by three gunmen as he dropped off his son in the Rosettenville suburb of Johannesburg. Police spokesperson Lorraine Van Emmerick told national radio that Lucky Dube’s daughter also witnessed the shooting. “He was hijacked. He was able to flee from the scene,” said Van Emmerick. “His children were out of the vehicle at the time Mr. Dube was shot. He was declared dead at the scene by the paramedics.” Lucky Dube achieved world fame through music with a social message such as this 2003 song about the ravages of AIDS, called “Number in the Book.” He received some 20 awards during his 25-year career and was the first South African musician to be signed by the Motown recording label in the United States. |
