LOCAL NEW YORKERS TEAM UP FOR CHANGE WITH SCHOOL SUPPLY AND TOY DRIVE FOR CHILDREN IN JAMAICA

jampactlogoNew York, New York, September 18, 2009 – Jamaica Impact, Inc. (JAMPACT) officially launches its Annual School Supply and Toy Drive at The Door Restaurant, 163-07 Baisely Boulevard, Jamaica, Queens NY on Saturday, October 19th at 1:00pm.

The supplies raised will be distributed in December to JAMPACT’s four adopted basic schools in Kingston, Jamaica: Crescent Road, Coles, St. Steven’s and Maxfield Park. Distribution will also be made to other local schools. Since 1999 JAMPACT has successfully coordinated its school supply and toy drive and distributed to these and other schools located in impoverish neighborhoods in Jamaica.

The drive runs from September 1st through to October 31st. Stations are conveniently located throughout New York City ready to accept new or lightly used supplies such as note books, reading books, pencils/pens, educational toys, backpacks, etc.

This year’s annual event aims to raise 1,000 backpacks of school supplies, a goal that is reportedly well underway, with lead efforts of coordinators Gloria Messam and Anthony Hallet.  “I am committed to giving back and making a difference in the lives of some of our less fortunate children in Jamaica.  This supply drive offers an excellent opportunity for myself, fellow JAMPACT members and other committed New Yorkers to do so” says Ms. Messam who has been involved with the organization for the past two years.  The drive is further aided by businesses such as The Door Restaurant and Transcontinental Shipping, and media groups ZYNC TV and IRIE JAM MEDIA.
