Jamaican poet Gina Rey Forest has stepped outside her usual genre, to give us her latest work, “Musings: A Peek into the Mind of the Poet”. Forest’s fourth publication, “Musings” is not the anthology of poetry one has come to expect from the prolific writer. Rather, it contains twenty-five chapters of thoughtful prose, reflecting Forest’s views on a variety of topics – from witty commentaries on everyday slices of Jamaican life, to philosophical musings on faith, interpersonal relationships and issues of morality.
“Musings started out as a blog”, Forest explains. Initially desiring to record her thoughts examining her faith and how that faith is expressed in her everyday life, Forest says her blog readers began to give her feedback that they were using the blog as devotional material. She then decided to publish what she says in her introduction are her “thoughts on life in general, things (she has) always wanted to say.”
An award-winning photographer, Forest also took the opportunity to showcase some of her work in each chapter. In her dedication, she asserts: “…The pictures in this book… convey a message of positivity… peace, beauty and tranquility”.
Gina Rey Forest first emerged onto the Jamaican poetry scene in 2001 with the critically acclaimed “Hot Sweet Chocolate – A Celebration of Love and Desire”. Her two subsequent works, “Interlude, Volume I” and “No Lube – I Am Telling It Like It Is” cemented her reputation for poetry replete with lush sensuality as well as hard-hitting social commentary.
“Musings: A Peek into the Mind of the Poet” is available online at Blurb.com, in paperback, image wrap hard cover, and hard cover with dust jacket. A preview of the book is also available on the site, at no cost.
