YOUNG TECHNOLOGY ENTREPRENEURS LAUNCH CUTTING EDGE TOURISM WEBSITES
IDream Jamaica, a trademark of the tourism marketing company IDream Caribbean, has
announced the launch of a series of cutting edge websites dedicated to promoting
Jamaican tourism businesses overseas and to vacationers within Jamaica.
Planning the perfect vacation in Jamaica can be a hassle. Choosing the right resort,
discovering places to go, and finding activities which suit your budget and style requires
information, and lots of it. This can easily become a logistics nightmare. The company
hopes to fix the problem once and for all.
As far as information goes, the websites have lots of it. Each destination (attractions,
hotels, and tour /transportation) are given their own profile which displays
comprehensive information on each such as rates, descriptions, facilities and services.
Since each destination controls their own information, it is guaranteed to be up to date
and accurate.
The websites use interactive technologies to enhance visitor experience. Visitors to the
main site (www.idreamjamaica.net) can browse through multiple photographs of
destinations, view their exact location on an interactive street level map, and watch
videos on the TV website (www.idreamjamaica.tv). Visitors may also send information
to their cell phones and contact each destination directly.
Planning a vacation itinerary is made easy in a revolutionary way. Visitors can drag and
drop destinations of their choice to specific days within their vacation calendar and at the
end of planning, they may download a document with their itinerary as well as email it.
Visitors may also book flights and cruises to and from Jamaica. “Our plan is simple..”, says Samuel Morgan, the young managing director of iDream Caribbean, “ …provide vacationers with useful information, provide an interface between vacationers and tourism businesses, and do it in a cutting edge way”. The company which was registered in 2007, is the first Caribbean company of its kind and combines technology with tourism to market the Caribbean region. “Our aim is to become the number one Caribbean tourism and travel resource within two years, and we are confident that our technology gives us the boost” says Morgan.
The internet is the new frontier for destinations discovery and vacation planning. In
2002, an estimated 39 million people planned and booked their vacation plans using the
internet entirely. 70 percent of travel planners now carry out at least half of their travel
research and booking online compared to 56 percent in 2006.
