Timmi Burrell Sings For The Poor & Oppressed
For Negril based singer Timmi Burrell music is a very serious thing. The Spanish Town Native does not believe in making music that does not have the ability to impact positively on the life of others. He does not believe in doing music for a quick hype and a bag of forwards at stage shows. He says “I have a message to deliver and it has to be done in a certain kind of way. No hurry come up thing, no hype thing for me, I don’t want to make it fast and then dissappear quickly”. Thats why he spends a lot of time working on his craft in and out of the studio, with his management and production team at Torie/Shae’s Production.
Every aspect of Timmi’s career is carefully guided by Torie/Shae’s Production boss Ralston Barrett, a man who has dedicated almost all of his life to unearthing and developing talent in Western Jamaica. Over the years he has played various roles in the music industry but he is chiefly known as an artist manager and a publicist. He is very confident that Timmi Burrell has what it takes to break out big time in the music business. As he is a very talented singer and songwriter who takes his music seriously.
Although not yet established Timmi Burrell believes he has a major role to play on behalf of the less fortunate and the oppressed, especially the children. That is why he chooses to sing songs that highlight the plight of the poor and oppressed instead of bling bling songs. As he puts it “I can sing any type of song gangster songs, love songs, party songs all that kinda stuff because I am a very versatile singer, but right now I prefer to sing for the children and for all the people who are suffering out there. Thats why I do songs such as “Children Crying”, “Chill & Hold A Vibes & “Ruff Inna Di Ghetto”. My mission is to uplift the people through music and bring attention to their plight so that those who are in a position to make a change in their lives will do so. This mission goes beyond just singing for me as I plan to do a lot of work to help the people as soon as I am in a position to do so.”
Since last year Timmi Burrell has been steadily building a name for himself. Towards the end of the year he made appearances on several major events such as Negril Impact & Pepsi Teen Splash. In December he did his first music video which was directed by Simeon Hedge. The video was shot on location across the Kingston such as Riverton City & Sherlock Crescent. The video is in support of Timmi Burrell’s soon to be released single “Children Crying” which is enjoying good rotation on several radio stations locally and abroad. Plans are currently in the pipeline for the completion of his debut album which will be released by the middle of this year. He is also connecting with thousands of fans all over the world via Internet through www.myspace.comtimmyburrellmusic.
