Stamma T the Singing Police

Jamaica is not only one of the most beautiful countries on earth, it is also one of the most culturally blessed. Talent is aplenty in our little island especially where music is concerned, so much so that it is now common place to see people who are otherwise employed, also showing off their musical talents. Once upon a time music was looked at as something for the idlers, but this is not the case anymore. We have doctors, lawyers and other professionals who are also pursuing careers in music.

Now a very talented police officer Evrold Tomlinson, of the Savanalamar Police station in Westmoreland, has also decided to make his entry into the music business. Tomlinson who goes by the stage name Stamma T, grew up in the community of Strathbogie in Westmoreland, where he attended the Bath Seventh Day Adventist Church. He says his love for singing began in those early days while attending church. He continued singing even after moving to Kingston to live with his big sister at the age of sixteen. While in Kingston he attended the Rollington Town Seventh Day Church, where joined a gospel group called the Young Inspirations..

Eventually he stopped singing after joining the Jamaica Constabulary Force in 1995. But the music would not let him go, in 2001 he heeded its call and decided to enter the popular song contest with a song titled Love JA. Despite not winning the contest the exposure he gained from participating in the contest was tremendous. As a result of his strong stage performance in the contest, a promoter from the US booked him for two shows in Florida that same year and the following year as well. After a while he took another break from music again.

However as faith would have it after being transferred to Negril in 2005 Stamma T met producer/musician Paul Francis aka Sly, who operates label called Higlight Jamaica Records and the Highlight Studio in Savanlamar. Since then with the encouragement of Francis who believes strongly in his talent he has recorded several songs. Currently he has three songs out How Many More Guns, Stop the Gun Shot & How Many Rivers all on the Highlight Jamaica label. All of these songs are receiving good rotation and are creating quite a stir in Westmoreland where he has been receiving tremendous support on the local radio stations in Sav.

Stamma T says “music is something that I love very much and I just want to make positive music, to share with the people a good message. I always try to make music I know my family and fans will be proud of”. The skies are the limit for Stamma T as he does not plan on letting the music go this time around. As he puts it “I plan to go as far as the music will take me. Right now I am just making music and having fun doing it, its not a hype thing for me as I am always focused on what I am doing both with the music and my career as a Police Officer and I feel that positive music is also a way to help to rid the country of crime and violence”.
